About Anabelle
I am a fourth-year cultural studies major with a minor in linguistics at Trent University. I am an avid reader, dictionary collector, and love to learn.
One of my many passions is alternative forms of education and helping people learn not just the curriculum, but how they learn information best. As a homeschool alumna, I know the value a hands-on education can have on students, especially if they are struggling in the institutional system that does not support their specific learning needs. If you can connect the content with your passions and interests, then you are more likely to retain what you've learned.
Outside of getting excited about teaching styles, I am also well-versed in a variety of art mediums and am currently teaching myself bobbin lace (and the gender politics related to lace making).
Over the years, I've tutored my cousins, taught solo and group archery lessons, and written papers about teaching phonics to a variety of age groups. If you are looking for someone with a varied skill set and a commitment to learning, you've found the right person!

Learning is not just about memorizing, it is about building skills that can help you throughout life. One of my main focuses when tutoring is helping students understand how they learn best.
Instructions and lesson plans are tailored to fit the individual students needs to help them retain, understand, and apply their knowledge to everyday life.
My experience is influenced by Montessori and homeschool methods, as well as linguistic theories, to help students dig deeper to find out why English behaves the way it does. I know first hand that conventional methods of institutional instruction do not work for every student and I believe that fostering a love of learning can help students excel.
I am best suited for students in elementary to high school who want to learn or strengthen their literacy and writing skills. Based on my art background, lessons can take a multidisciplinary approach depending on the students needs and interests. This can include reading and writing poetry, word investigation games, hands on work shops, and applied proofreading practice.
If this sounds like the right approach for you, I look forward to working with you.
