About Melanie

Hi, my name is Melanie and I am here to help guide you in improving your English skills so you can engage in conversation with confidence!

I live in Canada and I own an English used bookshop where I meet really interesting people and I want to go a step further and help people feel comfortable speaking English as a second language.

I completed a 180-hour TEFL course and also have a background in English Literature and Music Production.

My primary focus is to help you feel confident in conversational English, whether it is to expand your vocabulary, help you with phrases or with pronunciation, or just to help you practice so you can speak more fluently and comfortably.

Other interests of mine include film, crafting, writing, cooking, food history, hiking and exploring. I also produce my own music and just started a band!

I am excited to meet students from all over the world and help them on their journey of improving their English skills. I look forward to helping you engage in conversational English without fear!

About the lesson

My approach is to help students feel comfortable and confident in having conversations in English. The student can be new to speaking the language and they can also be advanced and just needing to practice.

A typical lesson plan wold allow the student to choose a topic of interest. We can watch a video or read a text related to the topic and I will provide activities for the student to gain further knowledge of the text or video. This will always lead to a discussion where the student can talk about their opinions, or repeat what they have learned, depending on their language level. I will also be asking questions to confirm that the student has an understanding of the topic.

I understand that speaking a language you may have trouble with can be difficult. I understand as someone who speaks French as a second language and I will let students take their time to open up.
