About Rosa
I'm Rosa, a born and bred Londoner, and I'm in my 20s. I love working with young people and want to try to make the process of studying a bit more accessible and enjoyable.
While I always liked reading and writing, I recognise that many people don't. After University, I attended drama school and now also work as an actor, which means my job is basically to tell stories to people (whether that's on stage, TV, or film). Because of this, I try to make my lessons fun and engaging, and have a personal connection with who I'm working with. You're far more likely to do well in a subject if you enjoy what you're learning, so hopefully I can help!

I strongly believe that every student is different, and has different needs. As a result, I adapt my sessions to who I am working with, although some elements exist within my methodology across the board.
I like to use a range of techniques in lessons, with discussion, writing tasks and different types of text all mixed in. I believe that variety keeps students engaged and also allows me to recognise where their strengths and weaknesses lie and adapt accordingly. Spelling and grammar teaching is always incorporated into every task, and I always begin with a quick recap of a previous lesson to see how much has been retained. If a student has a particular aversion to a type of text (e.g. poetry), I try to find particular versions that may appeal to them, in order to widen their perspective and make them feel more positive towards it.
Most of all, I want students to be able to enjoy my lessons!
Typically I work in one-hour slots with students, although this is sometimes extended to 90 minutes. I feel that any longer makes it difficult for the student to concentrate.
I have tutored for over 8 years, and have A-Levels in English, Latin and Ancient Greek. I have a degree in English and also a Master's degree in acting training.
My lessons are aimed for students aged 8 and upwards, depending on the qualification they are working towards and the level that they are studying in school. I offer tutoring for 9+, 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level.
