About Jade

I have had experience with a private tutoring company wherein I usually teach children with a 1:6 ratio, so there are 6 children for every 1 tutor, teaching children aged between 4-15 maths and English. The English tutoring consisted of both literature and language, with particular focus upon comprehension and reading and analysing prose, plays, and poetry in the literature, and spelling, grammar and punctuation in the language aspects.
I have also had experience with students in secondary schools during work experience and interview processes, where I have had to teach students aged between 11-16 English literature. The classes were usually 25-30 students at once.
I have also completed the Literacy Leader award which consisted of helping students aged 11/12 with their comprehension, and completing and teaching a lesson about different topics within English language and literature.
Obviously, within my degree, I have studied a wide range of modules surrounding both language and literature, and I cannot count how many novels, poems, and plays I have studied. Test me on any Shakespeare play and I can guarantee I can help!

About the lesson

Hi!
I'm currently studying in my third year at university doing a BA (Hons) English Language and Literature degree, to which I will follow up with a School Direct course during my fourth year at university to become a qualified secondary English teacher.
I believe that the best method to teach is to not feel as if a teacher is purely talking at the student and hoping that they will understand. I prefer to build a rapport with the student and reassure them that everyone has something that they are finding difficult or purely wanting to improve themselves on. And this is fine!
I usually like to teach with a small icebreaker/conversation just to make sure that my students are feeling super comfortable. I then like to go straight into the topic that they are wishing to look at, as the majority of the lesson will be looking at this. At no point will I just talk and talk at my students hoping that they understand; I will always check understanding of the student.
I am willing to travel, but would also probably prefer to do online tutoring lessons for ease, but as I say, I am able to travel to the locations I have previously mentioned.
Overall, I would like to make sure that the students I tutor feel I am not only someone who is helping them with their studies, gaining the best out of their experience, but also that I am a friend that they should never feel disheartened about talking to.
