About Leone

Hi there! I’m Leone, an English Language and Literature tutor with a degree in the subject and a CELTA teaching qualification. I’ve always been drawn to reading, writing, and exploring how language works. I had a poem I wrote published during my own school years, and I’m now preparing to begin my Masters in Creative Writing next year. My passion for English shines through in my teaching, and I genuinely enjoy helping students reach their full potential. Outside my studies and tutoring, I’m an oil painter working in Old Master-style techniques, and that creative discipline has influenced the way I teach. I pay close attention to detail, work methodically, and enjoy helping students develop confidence in expressing themselves - whether in an essay, an interpretation, or a single well-chosen phrase. I’m also a dedicated film fan and often incorporate cinema into teaching exercises. I understand what it feels like to be overwhelmed by a subject, so I create an atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making steady, genuine progress.

About the lesson

My goal is to make English approachable and interesting. As a subject that is often taught in an unengaging way in classrooms, and which relies on texts many students find outdated, I believe it is of the utmost importance to first encourage students to reconnect with the material on their own terms. Before focusing on exam technique, I help them understand what the text is actually doing - its tone, its ideas, and why it has endured. Once a student feels a genuine foothold in the work, the analytical skills follow much more naturally. I approach teaching in a patient, methodical and student-centric manner. Lessons involve lots of discussion, close reading and understanding of context, writing and some unique exercises that I have found to be highly effective. I create a calm and judgement-free learning environment, where the aim is to build genuine understanding and progress. My lessons typically last for 1 hour, though I can also offer both longer and shorter sessions to match student needs. I have recently graduated with a degree in English Language and Literature and I also hold a CELTA certificate for teaching English as a foreign language - these qualifications have equipped me with expert text-analysis, writing and teaching skills that I look forward to sharing with you. I am also doing a MA in Creative Writing next year and have had a poem published. As you can probably tell, this is a subject I am deeply passionate about. I work with students aged eleven to eighteen, particularly those preparing for GCSE and A Level English Language and Literature. My approach suits learners who need friendly, structured support and those who benefit from a calm and non-intimidating atmosphere. Together, we'll not only work towards excellent grades but a genuine understanding and love for the subject.
