About Briagh

Hello! It's nice to meet you in the virtual world and I look forward to meeting you on a video call soon! I am an easy-going person and I love to meet new people and hear their stories. Travel has been an important part of my life for decades now—food, history, new friends, and adventures are all good reasons to learn and share a language. I learned French from a very young age in Canada, and later learned Spanish in university, so I have experience stretching my own brain to communicate in a foreign tongue. I studied International Development in university following my interest in and curiosity about how to be a part of positive change and growth in the world. Eventually, I realized that helping people communicate clearly with one another across language barriers is a great job for me. As a CELTA certified English teacher, I have more than 15 years’ experience teaching and tutoring every age (from two years old to 95 years old) and for every level, from beginner to university preparation, IELTS preparation, and English for Business. I have developed and delivered a variety of Learning English Outdoors programs in Canada where I have run my own business as a Wilderness Guide and Outdoor Educator. As I am a flexible person, when Covid arrived, I began developing my skills as an online learning facilitator—we can use many tools in the virtual space that make language learning fun, engaging, and effective. A perfect day for me includes some sauntering through a shady forest, swimming (anywhere—ocean, lake, waterfall, pool!) and eating food made with friends in the great outdoors. I find reading is 'delicious' too.

About the lesson

I believe that laughter and play accelerate learning- whether we are beginners or advanced speakers of a foreign language. Using a relaxed approach, I create a safe and comfortable space where students feel confident to make mistakes so we can grow quickly together.

As I generally follow a communicative and task-based approach to learning, I use conversation about your interests, your story and your challenges to make the sessions as valuable as possible. The learning is always student-led in my sessions.

Whatever your goal is, we will work together to make sure that you can express your ideas, ask your questions and tell your jokes so that you can feel like yourself when you’re communicating in English.
