About Tomi

I am an English Literature, Business and Law student achieving A's and above. I have extensive experience teaching a number of subjects, particularly English as a language and a subject as well as Arabic. I am familiar with teaching various ages as well as working with students one on one or within groups while ensuring each student is taken care of more than adequately. I am extremely flexible in my expertise, whether it be editing work and explaining how to elevate the students writing or constructing the writing with them from the start. My skills in English that I intend to share can be applied to other subjects i.e. History, Philosophy, Religious Education etc. I am also able to mentor in these subjects through my experience.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are based on the students current abilities and what they intend to achieve in the long term so that I am able to ensure that we take efficient steps to see results every session. In my experience even students who are working at the same grade/level respond very differently to methods of teaching in terms of how they retain information. In this area, I am more than accommodating.

I begin by asking my students the areas they feel they struggle in as opposed to only assessing and telling them as it encourages self evaluation which in turn improves evaluative skills that can be applied to English. After this we may begin with a brief activity that indirectly relates to what we intend to explore that lesson in order to ease into the subject as English can be thoroughly overwhelming if not approached correctly. We will then move into the main part of the lesson using whatever methods I have assessed are best for that particular student e.g. planning how to structure, identifying command words within a question, extracting information from a text, how to compare effectively or even just expanding their vocabulary. The lesson may end with a short homework task to go through together the next lesson.

Students should also feel free to bring any homework or writing tasks they may have covered in school to ask questions about (perhaps they don't understand the feedback from their teacher) or to simply ask for help with the writing.
