About Melissa
I'm passionate about helping students find their voice through writing. My own academic journey took me from the IB program through universities in the US, France, and Canada, where I completed my MA in English Literature at Concordia. For the past eight years, I've been marking the CEGEP exit exam, which gives me real insight into exactly what evaluators are looking for at that level. Between the IB program and this marking work, I really know how to nail a standardized test essay - and I love helping students crack that code too. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I'm usually working on my own art - I'm a painter who's shown work across Montreal. I think there's a strong connection between creative expression and clear writing, and I bring that perspective to all my teaching. Whether you're tackling your first university essay or finishing a graduate thesis, I'm here to help you figure out how all the pieces fit together.

I think writing a good essay is like solving a puzzle - once you understand how the pieces fit together, practice makes it second nature. With international educational experience spanning the IB Diploma, studies in the US, France, and Canada, culminating in my MA in English Literature, I understand diverse academic systems. As an official Quebec Education Ministry exam marker since 2017, I know exactly what evaluators expect.
I work collaboratively with students, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. My experience marking hundreds of essays, teaching at college level, and providing detailed feedback to ESL graduate students helps me identify patterns and effective strategies across different educational backgrounds.
We identify your specific goals, then work with your own writing to make lessons immediately relevant. We might analyze paragraph structure, practice thesis development, or work through literary analysis. Each session ends with practical strategies you can apply independently.
