About Shashwat

I'm Shashwat, an English language and literature tutor based in Navi Mumbai. I hold an MA in English Literature from the University of Leeds, where I was awarded the Brontë International Scholarship, and I'm a Cambridge CELTA-certified educator, trained specifically in adapting teaching to individual learners' needs. Alongside my academic background, I have hands-on classroom experience teaching through Teach For India, and I've spent time mentoring university students on academic writing and structuring their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Before moving into teaching full-time, I worked as a journalist, which sharpened my ability to explain complex ideas simply and communicate clearly under pressure — skills I bring directly into how I teach. I care deeply about helping each student build both the technical skills they need and the confidence to trust their own voice, whether that's for an exam, an assignment, or simply becoming a more capable reader and writer. About the lesson

My approach is built around genuine engagement rather than rote memorization: I ask questions before I give answers, because students remember and internalize ideas far better when they arrive at understanding themselves. A typical class starts with a quick review of the previous session, moves into focused work on the day's specific goal (a grammar point, an exam technique, a text we're analyzing), and ends with a short recap and clear next steps, so progress always feels visible and structured.

My CELTA training gave me a strong grounding in needs analysis and differentiated instruction, so I adapt each session to the specific student in front of me rather than running a fixed template; whether that's a school student working through set texts, a college student developing academic writing skills, or an adult preparing for an IELTS exam under time pressure.

I work with students from Grade 8 upward, across CBSE, IB, IGCSE, and A-Level curricula, as well as adult learners preparing for academic English and IELTS assessments. What I care most about is building genuine confidence alongside the technical skills: a student who trusts their own thinking learns far more than one who's just memorized the 'right' answer.
