About James
I am a librarian, writer and researcher with a strong academic background in literature and information studies. I currently work in public libraries and previously worked in a university library, helping people develop research skills, access information and engage confidently with a wide range of texts.
I hold a 2:1 MA in Literature, Landscape and Environment and a 2:1 MA in Library and Information Services Management. Alongside my academic work, I am a published journalist and writer with a book forthcoming next year. My professional and academic experience has given me a strong grounding in literary analysis, critical thinking, research and written communication.
I am particularly interested in helping students develop confidence in reading, interpretation and essay writing. English Literature can sometimes seem daunting, but I believe that strong analysis comes from asking good questions, reading closely and learning how to communicate ideas clearly. My aim is to help students build those skills in a supportive and structured environment.

My lessons are tailored to each student's level, goals and areas of difficulty. Whether you are studying for GCSEs, A-Levels or at university, I focus on helping students develop stronger analytical skills, improve their essay writing and build confidence when discussing literature.
Lessons are discussion-based and interactive, encouraging students to engage closely with texts rather than simply memorising information. Depending on your needs, we might analyse key passages, explore themes and literary techniques, plan essays, improve paragraph structure, revise quotations or develop exam strategies.
I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and testing ideas. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them become more confident readers, thinkers and writers.
