About Rachel
Hi, I’m Rachel. I have an Honors degree in English Literature from Trent University and have spent the past eight years helping students feel less overwhelmed by essays and more confident in their own ideas. I’m a friendly, down-to-earth tutor who keeps lessons relaxed, supportive, and fun! I love working with students who think they “aren’t good at English” or who feel stuck staring at a blank page. I’m a curious person, and I use that curiosity to dig into what you noticed in a text, what confused you, what made you laugh, or what made you roll your eyes. From there, we build real insights and turn them into clear, well-organized writing. I’m quick with editing, happy to give honest feedback, and never judgmental. If a character is ridiculous, we can absolutely say so. If an assignment makes no sense, we’ll figure it out together. My goal is to help you understand the material, trust your own voice, and write work you feel proud of. Whether it’s a paragraph for Grade 7 or a major university paper - I got you.

My lessons focus on helping you understand what you are reading and express your ideas clearly in writing. I use a structured (but relaxed!) approach that encourages curiosity, so we build your analysis and arguments together instead of memorizing what someone else thinks the text means - because what's most important is what YOU think of the work, not someone else!
We start by talking through what stood out to you in the reading, then turn those ideas into a strong thesis and well-organized essay. I teach practical tools such as word webs, brainstorming techniques, outlining, and strategies for seeing the bigger picture. I also provide clear, line-by-line feedback and editing guidance so your writing improves from session to session.
I work with students in Grades 7 and 8, all levels of high school, and university. Whether you are tackling Shakespeare, preparing a major paper, or learning how to write a solid paragraph, I aim to make the process feel easier, more engaging, and more manageable. My goal is to help you build confidence, enjoy the material, and produce writing you can be proud of!
