About Diane
Diane has a Speech and Drama Teachers Diploma, a TESOL certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Film Studies. She was raised in Cape Town South Africa on Grannie’s great cooking, home remedies, poetry, maps, music and heated debates about society, war and peace. As a working Producer of 30 years in the film and television industry, she lectured for 3 ½ years at AFDA, a boutique university for film and performance, developing all the producing lectures and collaborating as one of the founder members of the television department. Many of her students have gone on to become top producers. From 2019 ongoing she has taught online and in person, one-on-one and groups, English and Business English. Her students range from CEOs to IT developers, HR VPs, engineers, students, and teachers. She builds a relationship with her students promoting confidence and English fluency while drawing on their commitment to learning. She comes highly recommended as an English tutor.

My 1st lesson is an assessment of the students’ needs and setting achievable goals.
My teaching method is interactive, often visual, focusing on a theme per lesson with speaking, reading, writing, and listening included in each lesson.
However, building confidence in the student is key.
A typical Lesson Plan would begin with open discussion around a theme, for example, “Different professions”, followed by emphasizing an aspect grammatically, for example adjectives describing certain behavior or/and character.
The opposites of each adjective and matching them would be an exercise.
This will be followed by a passage to be read where the characters will need an appropriate adjective chosen to describe each character. This is a reading, listening and pronunciation exercise.
The student will then have to choose 3 adjectives to describe themselves and write 3 sentences using these adjectives.
The conclusion of the lesson will be a discussion about the reasons for choosing those adjectives.
I am a creative passionate tutor who constantly assesses my students’ progress and needs and adapts my lessons accordingly.
I have taught all levels of English proficiency from intermediate to advanced, individually, and in groups, including Business English in specific professions especially HR.
I do believe that having a sense of humor adds a fun element to each class.
