In my lessons I will be prioritising the cultivation of the skill of inventiveness in approaching literature. The goal of each lesson will be to teach students to imaginatively approach literature, without reliance on school-provided resources. Learning to engage with a subject independently will leave you in good stead for a continuation into all essay-based subjects from A level and beyond. My primary goal will be to aid students in learning to depart from the taught model of essay writing. The taught models oftentimes invite overly simplistic and clinical essay writing which provides a difficult habit to remove in further education, and are all that is offered at most stages of education. A typical lesson will be to ask students to read a poem or extract (either set by their specification or by myself) before coming to lesson and asking them to speak on it while introducing alternate modes of interpretation to challenge these views. I will then assign a paragraph or essay to write for the following lesson to be marked and reviewed in lesson. The tasks will encourage students to challenge their usual modes of essay writing or thinking about literature, and in doing so develop the student’s ability to consider many ways in which to approach a text with great nuance even under timed conditions. I will also read over any work completed in school.

Isabel is a fantastic tutor. She tutored me throughout my final year studying for my GCSEs. I advanced from a 4 to an 8 in just a year! Super patient and devoted to her students and work. Would recommend!!
