English teacher in Chico with six years experience offering lessons in writing and communication

Methodology

Because students learn best when they actively engage, my goal is to collaborate with them and encourage them to participate. I approach each topic by presenting the material, giving them opportunities to discuss what we are covering, and then engaging them in activities that reinforce the concepts being taught. For example, I often follow up a presentation on rhetorical situations with an online discussion or poster session in which students are encouraged to identify the different components of a particular work.

Background

As an instructor, I have taught mass communication, English writing, composition and critical thinking for classes of up to 30 students. Students in my classes have successfully completed their degree programs, and several have gone on to graduate school. My students work hard, but most earn B's or better. I also used my writing and communication skills while working in Human Resources and labor relations for the State of California for 10 years.
