About Olivia

I have a Masters in English Literature, a joint Honours in English Literature and Language and gained QTS and my PGCE in 2020 and have worked in secondary schools ever since. After a year of teaching, I was promoted to Deputy Head of English. For this role, I created all of the schemes of work for KS3 and all of the Literature schemes of work for KS4: An Inspector Calls, Jekyll and Hyde, Macbeth and A Christmas Carol. I am also an AQA Examiner, since 2021, and have marked English Literature Paper 1 and Paper 2. I have always tutored alongside teaching and have great rapport with my students. I know the skills they need to improve on for both Literature and Language, I know how to challenge them and I know how to support them. Above all, my students become confident thinkers and are not afraid to have a go.

About the lesson

"The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill but the willingness to learn is a choice." In the first lesson, I provide an assessment for the student so that I understand what we will work on together. With this information, I create a scheme of work for the student that maps out what each lesson will look like, the assessment objective and content of the lesson. The scheme can be shared with parents so that they are aware of the course and skills that we will cover. This means every lesson is purposeful and sequential. If parents would like to know the outcomes of every lesson, this is also an option. This means the parents are aware of the progress and plan. My 1 hour lessons include knowledge, discussion, application and reflection. I foster discussion based learning because that enables students to become more confident articulating their thoughts and ideas. It encourages questions and curiosity, the art of thinking independently. I tutor KS3 and KS4 students and assist with assessment preparation or building on core skills to assist with their journey in English.
