About Graham
I've been teaching ESOL at levels A1-C2 for 2 years with over 850 hours of classroom instruction time in small class formats and one-on-one tutoring. I currently teach at Carolina Literacy where I have 25-30 ESOL students in a normal semester spread across multiple classes, along with holding IELTS/TOEFL review classes during the summer. My education at American University was in philosophy and social science, so students who need help writing essays for English, History, Psychology/Sociology or Philosophy please reach out!

- My teaching method mixes student- and teacher-centered activities that aim to keep students' affective filter low and curiosity high. I prioritize active practice with challenging concepts over rote review. Students with ADHD especially have historically enjoyed my methods and found support in them.
- A typical lesson flow in my classroom goes something like this: 1) Review challenges from the last class; 2) Introduce new material; 3) Set students up for low-pressure guided practice; 4) Check for comprehension by considering counter-examples and fail-cases; 5) Remove the training wheels and let students practice independently, and; 6) Dig into what went wrong and what went right, wrapping up with a short reflection on what students learned that day in their personal classroom journals.
- My one-on-one lessons have been described by a current student as "English class mixed with a coach". I try very hard to always consider the student's growth process apart from, and in addition to, simply achieving English learning outcomes.

Graham is very culturally sensitive and open to understanding people from different languages and backgrounds. He really took the time to understand me and exactly what I needed in order to improve my English quickly and focus on the right areas.
I really enjoyed learning English through Graham’s warm, sensitive, and approachable way of teaching. He makes the language feel accessible and creates a very comfortable environment for learning.
I highly recommend Graham to anyone who wants to learn English or improve their English. He is simply an excellent language teacher.I highly recommend Graham as an English teacher. He has been one of my teachers, and I can honestly say that thanks to his guidance, I became much more confident in my English.
Graham is incredibly knowledgeable and patient when explaining concepts. He has a strong understanding of English grammar and phonetics, and his knowledge of Spanish and French also makes his approach to teaching very flexible and effective. He always gives his best and brings a great deal of dedication to every class.
One of the things I appreciate most is that you learn something from him in every single class. His explanations are clear, thoughtful, and always help you understand not only how English works, but also how to use it with greater confidence.
I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated English teacher.View more recommendations
