About Tom
Hey! I’m Tom Pryor, a Secondary English teacher from NSW with over 10 years of classroom experience. I entered the teaching profession as a mature-age student, bringing a diverse background across several industries with me. This experience allows me to bring real-world relevance to my lessons and help students make meaningful connections between the texts we study and the world around them. My approach to tutoring is supportive, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs. Whether we’re exploring literary analysis, improving essay skills, or preparing for exams, I focus on clear communication and practical strategies that build confidence and capability.

English doesn’t have to feel vague, overwhelming, or confusing. In our sessions, we focus on making ideas clear, manageable, and genuinely interesting, while staying closely aligned to the NSW English syllabus across Years 7–12.
Lessons support students from Years 7–11 through to English Standard and Advanced, with a strong focus on building skills that carry through to the HSC.
We may work on:
Essay writing and structured responses across Years 7–12
Close textual analysis of language, form, and ideas
The Common Module, including SAQs and extended responses
Module A: Textual Conversations and comparative writing
Module B close study of prescribed texts
Poetry, drama, prose, and film, including T.S. Eliot and Shakespeare
Advanced interpretation and exam preparation
Lessons are structured but flexible, with an emphasis on confidence, clarity, and long-term skill development.
