About Eliott

Hello! My name is Eliott and I am currently pursuing a degree in Political Theory at UCL. I have always been passionate about learning, and take great pleasure in reading and writing on a regular basis. Going through my peers' essays and giving them feedback has become a regular hobby of mine, as this is something that we all do frequently as students. As the international student population at UCL is so vast, student colleagues that ask me to review their essays often struggle with issues such as English grammatical syntax and using the appropriate words for an academic context. As English is my native language, these things come naturally to me and working with my international colleagues has allowed me to develop effective methods for explaining to them in a clear fashion how they can improve their essays. Working with the tutoring organisation Opportutoring has also allowed me to develop my teaching skills with non-native speakers. With my other native English speaking peers, however, my feedback usually consists of relevant ideas they may want to include in their essay to further strengthen their arguments, segments they should clarify in order to get their point across in a more effective way, or alternative words/sentence structures they may want to consider in order for their essay to have a better 'flow'. In both cases I have noticed that I thoroughly enjoy the whole process of working through ideas with other people, as it often also allows me to discover new perspectives and learn new things. There is really nothing more satisfying than submitting an essay you feel confident about after having communicated your own arguments and thoughts in a clear and persuasive manner!

About the lesson

Having graduated from a Liberal Arts degree in Canada on the Dean's Honour Roll and currently maintaining a 1st degree average in Political Theory at University College London has allowed me to develop an excellent understanding of how to structure academic essays and communicate arguments in a clear and effective way. Furthermore, working with the refugee organisation Opportutoring has allowed me to extensively develop and improve my teaching skills. Together we can work on more technical aspects of essay writing such as how to make a useful essay plan or how to take notes in an organised manner while conducting research, but more importantly we can work through how to develop and communicate your ideas and arguments in a clear and effective manner. You can also send me any essays you have already written and I can proofread them to give you feedback on how you can improve. I also speak French and Spanish fluently so if you are an international student working on your English essay writing skills I can be of help. My lessons are appropriate for people of any skill level and age.
