About Nadine
My journey as an English teacher began with a solid 150-hour TEFL certification, which provided me with a robust understanding of language teaching methodologies and classroom management. Since then, I've gained three years of practical experience teaching English to a diverse range of students. This hands-on experience has allowed me to refine my skills and adapt my approach to meet individual learning needs effectively.

Teaching English is more than just imparting grammar rules; it's about fostering communication, confidence, and a genuine love for the language. My methodology is rooted in interactive, student-centered learning, focusing on practical application and real-world communication.
My Unique Approach
What makes me unique is my ability to blend structured learning with dynamic, adaptable activities. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I tailor my lessons to the individual needs and learning styles of my students. I incorporate a lot of task-based learning, where students use English to complete meaningful tasks, simulating real-life scenarios. This could involve role-playing a job interview, planning a trip, or debating a current event. This not only makes learning more engaging but also helps students see the immediate relevance of what they're studying.
Furthermore, I emphasize pronunciation and intonation from day one. Many teachers focus solely on vocabulary and grammar, but clear pronunciation is crucial for effective communication and often overlooked. I use a variety of techniques, including minimal pairs, tongue twisters, and even singing, to help students develop natural-sounding English. I also integrate cultural awareness into my lessons, as language and culture are inextricably linked. Understanding cultural nuances can greatly enhance a student's ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
Language Proficiency
I am proficient and able to teach in English (native speaker). Additionally, I have a strong working knowledge of Afrikaans, which allows me to provide clear explanations and support to Afrikaans-speaking students when needed, addressing their specific challenges and building bridges to understanding.
What to Expect from a Typical Lesson
A typical lesson with me is dynamic, engaging, and highly participatory. We'll always start with a brief review of previous material, followed by an introduction to new concepts, whether it's a grammar point, new vocabulary, or a specific communicative function. However, the bulk of the lesson is dedicated to active practice.
You can expect:
Interactive Activities: Lots of pair work, group discussions, debates, role-plays, and games that encourage speaking and listening.
Real-World Materials: We'll use authentic materials like news articles, song lyrics, video clips, and even excerpts from books or movies to make learning relevant and interesting.
Personalized Feedback: I provide constructive and immediate feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary, helping you understand your strengths and areas for improvement.
Focus on Fluency and Accuracy: While I encourage speaking freely, I also guide students towards greater accuracy over time.
A Supportive and Encouraging Environment: My classroom is a safe space where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities, and confidence building is a priority.
