About Simran

With three years of English tuition experience as well as an academic background (A level) in English, I believe I am adequately able to help you improve your essay writing skills and Exam prep at all academic levels up to A Level (including all exam boards). I am currently an LSE Masters student studying Social and Cultural Psychology and have extensive knowledge of the admissions process including experience in scholarship programmes. I have written many (successes) application through UCAS and independent processes. I would be delighted to help you on your academic journey.

About the lesson

My lesson planning philosophy for English tutoring, from foundational literacy to A-Level rigour, is rooted in a diagnostic and scaffolded approach. For early learners, lessons are interactive and skills-based, focusing on grammar, vocabulary building, and reading comprehension through engaging texts. As students progress to GCSE, the focus shifts to mastering exam technique, analysing language and structure in set texts, and crafting persuasive writing, all within a framework that builds analytical confidence. At the A-Level tier, lesson plans become sophisticated seminars, delving into critical theory, nuanced textual analysis, and the construction of independent, argument-driven essays. This progressive structure ensures that each student, regardless of starting point, is equipped with the precise tools and intellectual curiosity needed to achieve mastery and excel at their specific level. My approach to lesson plans for graduate admissions writing is highly personalised and strategically sequenced, moving students from foundational concepts to polished final drafts. Initial sessions focus on deconstructing successful statements of purpose and personal statements, identifying the core narratives of "who you are" and "why this program." We then use brainstorming exercises and outlines to transform a student's academic history and research interests into a compelling, cohesive story. Subsequent lessons are workshop-style, dedicated to drafting, refining, and strengthening the narrative arc, ensuring each paragraph serves a distinct purpose—from the engaging hook to the conclusive fit with the target institution. The final stage involves meticulous line-editing for clarity, tone, and concision, alongside targeted drills on common grammatical pitfalls for non-native speakers. This structured yet adaptive framework ensures every essay is not only error-free but authentically represents the applicant's voice and intellectual potential, maximising their chance of acceptance.
