About Tolu
Hi!
My name is Tolu and I study Economics at the University of Warwick. Considering I did A-levels in History, English Literature, History and, obviously, Economics, it feels like the perfect fit.
I really do love teaching English - surprisingly, for the same reasons. Quite often, I hear talk like 'I'm just not a reading person' and 'English isn't for me.' This is not simply true! With all good things, it just takes a little practice. That moment where it all clicks is something I think we can both reach, together. That's the experience I hope to give to all my students.

I have been tutoring for nearly 2 years now across different online platforms. I would say this has allowed me to work on delivering an engaging and empowering lesson through a computer screen - an all too important skill during the current climate.
I have also achieved an 8 and 9 in GCSE English Lit and Lang respectively, and received an A* in A-level English Literature, with full marks in the coursework accreditation.
In terms of my teaching style, lessons should be tailored to each student. This is a collaborative process that prioritises the student's needs and wants where possible.
The types of lessons necessary for holistic improvement in a subject generally boil down to three -
Content - these are meant to fill in the gaps left behind after school lessons. This is to make sure the student has no glaring holes in subject knowledge and can take part in and enjoy exam practise and drill sessions.
Building confidence - Confidence is an essential part of any learning process. These lessons would generally be a blend of content and practice - a short bite-sized piece of content, followed by short quick-fire drill questions. For example, in English, these drill questions could be focused on the plot of a key text.
Exam practice - to pass exams, students have to be familiar with the structure and type of questions they will get. This is why this lesson is the main collaborative piece of work. My student and I would work through a long answer question in English Literature.
I am currently looking to teach -
AQA GCSE English Language and Literature students (both topics together or separately)
AQA A-level English Literature students
Lessons are typically 55 minutes long.
