About Philippa

I am a friendly and experienced English teacher and tutor with over ten years of experience enabling students to achieve and exceed their expectations. I believe it's really important to have a good working relationship with my students so I take time to get to know them and establish a rapport. I also do my best to adapt my teaching to my students' interests and strengths to make our sessions as engaging and productive as possible. I have been a booklover since I first learned to read and I hope that my passion for literature will rub off on my students. That said, I know that many people just want to maximise their potential when it comes to exams and I am more than happy to make that our focus too. If you think reading is not for you I will do my best to change your mind, but I also appreciate that some people are just wanting to make sure they get the best possible.

About the lesson

I believe the best learning occurs when there is trust and goodwill between the tutor and student and so I work hard to get to know my students: their interests and their learning preferences. That way, I can adapt my materials and teaching style to get the best out of each and every student. I am passionate about reading and writing and always aim to bring English to life for my students. I have a BA in English Literature, a Masters in Leading Innovation and Change in schools and am a qualified teacher, with most of my experience being in Outstanding schools. I have also worked as an examiner and an exam paper reviewer for an exam board so have a deep understanding of how English is assessed. I have a special interest in Creative Writing and enjoy writing myself, so if this is something that interests you, all the better! I am available to tutor KS3 and GCSE English Literature and Language, and A Level English Literature. I believe English tutoring works best in sessions of 60-90 minutes but I am willing and able to adapt to what works with your schedule or needs.
