About Samantha

Having always loved English as a subject, and more particularly the intellectual depth and engagement in the process of analysis and crafting expression, I completed an undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature while continuing to teach all levels of high school English. I am very passionate about discussing texts in your own light and teaching you to translate that onto the page to make for an exceptional, top-scoring essay but also developing within you a deep understanding of analysis, insight, and measured expression.

Hello! I'm Samantha - I graduated from James Ruse in 2021, and am currently studying a combined Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Comparative Literature) degree at Sydney University. I offer Preliminary and HSC English tutoring online in a one-on-one or small group format, with an approach that balances illustration, feedback and practice. I also offer one-off essay review classes to refine your essay into a final draft before exams and develop exam strategies and techniques.

Having taught in this subject for the last 4 years, I realize that everyone learns differently, and aim to tailor my classes to better suit the learning style of my students, particularly because English is about more than just being able to write, but also about first mastering skills in perceptive and critical thinking and then being able to showcase those skills through sophisticated expression.

My HSC experience (throughout COVID) was a challenging one, but it has sharpened my ability to know what it takes to get students motivated and achieving at their best, and I aim to be a mentor and unconditional supporter as well as a tutor.

I teach all texts on the old and new syllabus and have taught students from various top schools in the State including James Ruse, North Sydney Boys, North Sydney Girls, Normanhurst Boys, Sydney Boys, Knox, The King's School, Meriden, among others. All of my students have scored in the highest band in the English HSC and many have gone on to study degrees such as Medicine, Law and other Advanced Health/Science/Engineering programs.
