About Matthew
I have studied social sciences and modern languages at University College London, Sciences Po Paris and its satellite campus in Dijon, the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and Brunel University. I took an intercalated year in biochemistry and genetics at the Chester Medical School. I am doing a PhD with a focus on Chinese culture. I lived in France, Germany, Portugal, and China and have worked as a tutor full-time for four years, teaching students of all ages. I have also worked in education administration at University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), at Sciences Po Paris, and at the University of Chester. I can currently only tutor online (via Zoom, or Skype, etc.). In addition to French and English, I can offer wider tutoring in the humanities and social sciences at GCSE and A-Level, and beyond in some fields.

I like to adapt my teaching style to each student, as everyone learns differently. In teaching English language and literature to GCSE and A-Level I adopt a university tutorial style approach based on dialectic, student-led troubleshooting. Similarly, in teaching English as a foreign language I take a conversational approach, though this depends upon the student's specific needs. In perfecting both oral and written communication, be that academic/essayistic or more general, I teach the same means-tested methodologies in which I have been trained at top universities - again, tailored to a student's level, requirements, and preference. Many of my tutees have gone on to success at world class universities, to become excellent linguists and scholars, and to work at Fortune 500 companies or in government and supranational organisations, the army, the police, medicine, and research.
