About Randal
I received my degree in English, Secondary Education from The College of New Jersey in May2009. Since then, I have taught in three different settings. I began my career in September 2009 at the William C. McGinnis School in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where I taught seventh and eighth grade language arts. In January 2014, I accepted a position at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center and was the sole English teacher there until August 2017. I returned to the William C. McGinnis School in September 2017 as a Reading Intervention teacher until I was offered a position at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, an adult prison in New Jersey. During my tenure there, I was an English teacher and the Title One teacher. In that latter position, I provided small-group instruction to students who needed remedial work in math and reading. My experience in these three settings has emboldened my passion for ensuring that all students are provided with a quality education regardless of who they are or where they come from, and I am now seeking new opportunities to do so virtually. It is my belief that in this particular era, a quality education is of more importance than ever before, and yet far too many obstacles stand in the way of those seeking to better themselves through schooling. My goal as a teacher has always been to help my students surmount those obstacles and to enrich their lives by helping them tap into their potential to achieve personal and academic success. It is my hope that, by expanding my reach through online tutoring, I can help ensure that more students have access to the quality education they deserve.

My approach to teaching has always been student-centered and flexible. I cater my lessons to my students' needs and goals, and I approach each lesson with patience, an easygoing attitude, and a willingness and ability to deviate from my initial plans if it will benefit my students. I know that my students and I will make progress, and I don't attempt to rush that progress but rather take the time to ensure my students truly grasp the material before moving forward. I also discuss how the skills we're working on are relevant to life outside of the classroom so that students can see how the material is relevant to them beyond just getting a good grade
