About Jake

I have taught English for more than 2 years, and I have more than 3000 hours of in-class experience. For the first year of my career, I taught at Maximo Nivel Language Academy in Costa Rica and Peru. And now, for more than a year, I have been teaching students English online. I have a degree in English from Texas State University, and I also have a 120-hour TEFL teaching certificate from TEFL.com. I lived in Latin America for 2 years, so I have a high level of conversational Spanish and a basic level of Portuguese. I am an extroverted and sociable person that loves talking to people, and I can make conversation with anyone in the class. I truly love my job, and my passion is seeing students improve their English skills.

About the lesson

My lessons are focused on real-life conversations, so students with a basic or intermediate level can become fluent! In the class, I focus on reviewing grammar basics, teaching native English expressions, and talking about a wide variety of topics. While my goal is to teach my students all the important aspects of English, I also aim to create a comfortable, friendly environment where people feel free to make mistakes and try new things.

Every class, we discuss a new topic, and during that discussion, I share small grammar corrections and new vocab words. For the homework, I assign a reading, writing, or listening topic so the student can have more practice material outside of the class. These assignments serve as a discussion topic for the next class.

My classes are well-rounded, low stress, and effective, and can help you improve your English in a short time.
