About Peter
I am a professional accountant with a CPA designation. I retired in Burlington, Ontario, and decided to pursue a rewarding career helping new Canadians speak English. I enrolled with Literacy South Halton in Burlington and completed their Tutor Training Workshop. I then moved to Toronto and enrolled with United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College). I have tutored students for several years and continue to do so. I completed three courses through the University of Waterloo focused on grammar refresher. I completed in early 2025 the certification program through the University of Toronto OISE Studies in Education - Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

My approach is understanding the student's goals and working on a strategy to achieve them.
* I tailor my lessons around the real world and use magazine, newspaper and news clip articles,
* Grammar is incorporated into the lessons to reinforce its meaning and how it works
* My lessons vary but touch on the three corner stones: reading, writing and speaking
* Vocabulary building is essential
* Practice, practice, practice
* Listening to videos/dialoges to build comprehension
