About Nicola

After more than 38 years in primary education, I may be semi-retired, but my passion for teaching remains as strong as ever. I love helping children not only make academic progress but also develop confidence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning.

Teaching has taken me around the world. Most recently, I spent three months in Cambodia as a volunteer English teacher, an experience that was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It reinforced my belief that every child can succeed when they feel supported, encouraged, and understood.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy an active and adventurous lifestyle. I am a Pilates instructor, an Aqua Fit teacher, and a keen swimmer. One of my proudest achievements was completing the Great North Swim, swimming 10K in Lake Windermere in just four hours. These experiences have taught me the value of perseverance, determination, and setting ambitious goals—qualities I encourage in all my students.

My family is spread across the globe, with my children and young granddaughter living in Australia, where I spend several months each year. While there, I volunteered as a Bush School teacher at my granddaughter’s preschool and drew upon my training as a Forest School Leader to help children learn through exploration, creativity, and hands-on experiences. More recently I have worked as a volunteer in her primary school.

As a tutor, I bring warmth, patience, and a wealth of experience to every lesson. I create engaging, personalised learning experiences that help children build skills, confidence, and independence. My aim is not simply to improve academic results, but to help every child believe in themselves and become a happy, successful learner.

About the lesson

I am a passionate and dedicated educator with over 38 years of experience as a primary school teacher. I am committed to helping children develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to become successful lifelong learners.

I specialise in English and Mathematics, as well as 7+ and 11+ preparation, tailoring every lesson to meet the individual needs and learning styles of my students. Creativity is at the heart of my teaching, and I enjoy designing engaging, personalised lessons that inspire children to achieve their full potential.

Each lesson will start with a recap of previous learning to support knowledge retention and deep thinking. New concepts will then be introduced with a focus on application of the real world as well as exam style concepts. A review of learning at the end of the lesson will ensure consolidation and where necessary, home learning opportunities.

My approach focuses not only on what children learn but also on how they learn, helping them develop effective study habits, resilience, and self-confidence. I have extensive experience working with reluctant learners and take pride in creating a supportive, positive environment where children feel motivated, challenged, and excited to learn.

I believe that learning should be both enjoyable and rewarding, and I strive to make every lesson engaging, interactive, and fun.

My methodology of teaching draws upon my years of experience and up-to-date knowledge of educational technology and AI.

My rate includes 40 minutes of direct teaching time via Zoom and 20 minutes of preparation, planning and marking time.
