About Beryl

Personal Profile

Hello, my name is Beryl Shedden. I live in North Wales with my husband and 11 year old daughter.

I like music, mainly 80's 'New Romantic' but also including rock, opera and musical theatre.

In addition I enjoy swimming, cycling and cinema. I also like to make the most of the countryside on offer in my area.

Teaching Ethos.

I like my lessons to cover a range of skills to play to my students strengths and learning styles. I very much enjoy using music in my lessons.

My Degree from Wolverhampton University was in French and German. I have also studied GCSE Spanish.

I have 15 years very varied classroom experience, as a Teaching Assistant and Teacher. This has mainly been in KS2 – 5. Some has been 1:1 with certain SEN pupils and young adults.

I have also very much enjoyed 10 years of TEFL Summer School, mainly to European teenagers.

Previously to undertaking teaching qualifications I had volunteer experience as an MFL tutor at the Re-entry project, Wolverhampton which proved very rewarding and successful. This project would re-integrate excluded pupils into mainstream education, by offering tuition in most curriculum areas. The project would work with local schools to put statments, behaviour programmes and other such things in place as would ease a child’s return to School.

Similar to the Reentry Project, I taught MFL lessons at Halton House School in Runcorn. Halton House is a small residential unit for up to 12 children with particular abuse issues. These pupils needed consistency of care, discipline, reward and consequences. I would need to plan very differentiated lessons for ability. I would need to be very sensitive to the dynamics of a small institution and class.

I have very recently (until lockdown) been a French/German tutor at a local High School. During lockdown I have had 4 KS3/4 pupils for French and German.

About the lesson

Teaching Ethos.

I like my lessons to cover a range of methods (audio, visual and kinesthetic) and skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) to play to my students strengths and learning styles. I very much enjoy using music in my lessons.
