About Katie
Hi, I'm a trainee primary teacher based in Scotland with a strong background in childhood education. I have an undergraduate degree in Childhood Studies and I’m currently completing my PGDE in Primary Education, with all coursework completed and my final placement set for September. I'm passionate about making learning accessible and meaningful for every child. I believe in calm, nurturing teaching that supports not just academic progress, but also confidence and emotional wellbeing. I’m a visual learner myself, so I love using creative, clear strategies to help learners grasp tricky concepts in a way that makes sense to them. I have experience working with children across a wide range of ages and needs—including early years learners, children with additional support needs (ASN), and those learning English as an additional language (EAL). I also enjoy helping students studying education or childhood degrees, offering friendly, structured support with academic tasks and coursework. Outside of teaching, I love getting outdoors, socialising with friends, and travelling whenever I get the chance. I also spend a lot of time with my family, which keeps me grounded and brings me joy. Whether your child needs support catching up, building confidence, or simply a positive space to learn, I’m here to help every step of the way.

I deliver my lessons in a calm, structured, and highly personalised way to make sure each child feels supported and confident. Whether working online or in person, I always begin by getting to know the learner—how they learn best, what their interests are, and where they may be struggling or need extra encouragement. Each session is tailored to the child’s individual needs and learning goals. I begin with a warm-up activity or brief review of previous learning, followed by clear, step-by-step teaching using visual aids, real-life examples, or interactive resources. I use questioning and gentle encouragement to check understanding and always go at the child’s pace. For younger children or early years learners, I make sessions playful, active, and sensory where appropriate—incorporating phonics games, storytelling, drawing, and movement. For older learners or those in higher education, I focus on developing independent study skills, essay planning, and confidence with academic reading and writing. I offer a nurturing space where children and young people feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I’m especially experienced in supporting children with additional support needs (ASN) and those learning English as an additional language (EAL), using visual strategies, scaffolding, and plenty of praise to build confidence. After each lesson, I’m happy to provide feedback to parents or carers and suggest next steps. My aim is to make every learner feel capable, heard, and proud of their progress.
