About Kaavya

I am an academic researcher and consultant with over eight years of experience working with governments, NGOs, international organisations and research institutes, which means I am used to breaking down complex ideas for very different audiences and supporting people who may be new to challenging topics.

I want to teach because I genuinely enjoy helping others understand the world around them and find their own voice in how they think and write about it. Teaching gives me a way to bring together my academic training, professional experience and my commitment to social justice, and to make them directly useful to individual students rather than just to institutions or reports.

I am also incredibly well travelled, having visited more than 40 countries, which gives me a rich bank of real-world examples, cross-cultural perspectives and stories that use to make my lessons more engaging and relatable. I am very well read across literature, politics, history and current affairs, and have several interests outside academia, which helps me connect with students as whole people rather than just as learners of a subject.

All of this means I view teaching not only as passing on knowledge, but as opening up curiosity, confidence and critical thinking in ways that are grounded in both global experience and everyday life.

About the lesson

I am a part-time PhD researcher in International Relations at the University of Nottingham, specialising in international affairs and human rights with over eight years of professional experience across research, policy and programme coordination. I hold an MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex) and a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Delhi, and I have worked with organisations such as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, UNDP, Justice and Care, Humanity Research Consultancy and Tetra Tech.

I offer structured, student-centred tutoring in English and social sciences, including politics and international relations, development studies, sociology, human rights and related subjects, from GCSE and A level up to undergraduate and taught postgraduate level. Lessons are delivered online, allowing flexible scheduling for students based in the UK and internationally, and can focus on content understanding, exam preparation, essay and dissertation support, or research methods and critical thinking skills.

My teaching approach is calm, supportive and rigorous: I break down complex ideas into accessible steps, use real-world case studies and help students build confidence in writing, argumentation and analysis. I also support students with planning coursework, structuring essays, improving clarity and coherence, and referencing correctly at GCSE, A level and university level.

What’s included
• Preparation time built in: My rate covers not only the hour we spend together, but also the time I spend in advance reviewing your syllabus, marking past work (if shared), and tailoring materials to your goals and level.

• Bespoke materials: I provide curated readings, structured notes, essay and exam templates, and practice questions designed around your needs, so you’re not just relying on generic textbooks or websites.

• Feedback between sessions: For regular students, I can offer brief written feedback on short pieces of work between lessons (within reason), so your learning continues beyond the hour we’re on a call.

• Online delivery and tech: The price includes use of online tools (video platform, shared documents, collaborative whiteboards) and sending follow-up summaries or resources after sessions.

• No extra classroom costs: As I teach online, there are no additional fees for classroom or space rental. If we ever agree an in-person session, any venue or travel costs would be discussed and agreed in advance.

Please note: My pricing reflects my years of research experience, and a highly tailored, academically rigorous approach. I take on a limited number of students at a time to ensure each person receives thoughtful preparation and high-quality feedback.
