Hello! My name is Shannon, and I am a passionate, certified Special Education (SPED) teacher dedicated to helping students unlock their full academic potential. With years of professional classroom experience working with diverse learners, I have built my career on the belief that every student can succeed when given the right tools, strategies, and support.

As a professional educator, I hold myself to the highest standard of instruction. I bring deep knowledge of specialized learning strategies, behavioral intervention, and individual accommodation plans directly into our tutoring sessions. About My Lessons & Teaching Approach

Who the lessons are for:
My lessons are specially designed for students of all abilities, from elementary through middle school, who need support in English, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and foundational writing skills. Because of my professional background, I specialize in working with students who have unique learning profiles, neurodivergent minds (such as ADHD, dyslexia, or autism), or those who simply benefit from a more patient, structured learning environment.

My teaching method and techniques:
I break down language arts concepts into manageable, bite-sized pieces using evidence-based, multi-sensory techniques. I combine visual aids, interactive word work, and auditory practice to ensure concepts actually stick. My approach relies heavily on positive reinforcement, patience, and adapting in real-time to a student's energy and frustration levels to keep stress low and engagement high.

A typical lesson plan:
Each 50-to-60-minute session follows a predictable, routine structure to help students feel secure and successful:

• The Warm-Up (5-10 mins): A quick, low-stakes game or review of the previous lesson to build immediate confidence.

• Direct Instruction (15 mins): Introduction of the day’s target concept (e.g., a specific spelling rule or grammar structure) using visual and explicit modeling.

• Guided Practice (20 mins): Working through examples together with interactive, hands-on activities, gradually letting the student take the lead.

• Wrap-Up & Reflection (5 mins): A quick check for understanding and a celebration of the day's hard work.
