About Christopher
Hi, I’m Chris, a professional cello teacher based in Des Moines, IA.
Are you struggling to break out of a musical plateau or translate the music in your head into your instrument? Whether you are navigating performance anxiety, battling a rigid technique, or just feeling lost in the practice room, I am here to help you fix it. I bring 20 years of music industry experience directly to your lessons—including performing over 1,100 shows (I even once toured the Erie Canal by canoe from Buffalo to NYC), playing on over 30 studio albums, and composing for films, YouTube series, and podcasts.
Backed by degrees from Full Sail University and additional studies at SUNY Fredonia, I have taught for over 10 years. Because we all learn differently—some visually, some tactilely, some intuitively—I constantly adapt my teaching to your natural learning style. My goal is to help you persevere through challenges, encourage critical thinking, and empower you to cultivate your own unique voice and creative process through play.

Teaching Methodology
We all learn differently. Some of us are visual, some tactile, some intuitive, and some cerebral. Figuring this out together allows me to adapt our approach to your natural learning style.
Typical Lesson
Every student's journey is unique, but a lesson is generally broken down into common phases.
We'll run scales, sight-read, and focus on musical expression to get you warmed up.
This varies more. We might discuss practical music theory, performance practice, introduce a brand-new technique, listen, practice techniques, compose, interpret, or countless other subjects.
Then we have your repertoire. For my cello students, we use the Suzuki books or Essential Elements, and eventually, we add etudes, pieces of your choice, school music, or work toward ABRSM, Trinity, RSL, or RCM.
Throughout our time, we will also discuss music history, the language of music, gear, recording, composition, and live performance strategies.
Lesson Options: 30, 45, and 60-minute lessons to best suit your age, goals, and/or schedule.
Cancellation Policy: 24-hour advance notice is required for any changes or cancellations made to your lesson, or you must pay the full price of the lesson. If you are unpaid and cancel twice, you will be removed from the roster.

Perfect! Chris was wonderful with my child! He was so patient, kind, and easygoing. We could tell that he really has a passion for the cello and he passed that on to my child. He made my child feel very proud of themself and eager to learn. Chris is definitely in the running to become our child’s teacher.
Perfect! Chris is very knowledgeable and tries different ways to make learning better for me.

Christopher is friendly, punctual, organized and dependable! Hiring him is a no-brainer. He approaches teaching with both intelligence and passion.
I've had a good experience with Chris while taking lessons. He's good at breaking down complex techniques into manageable steps. Chris is engaging and animated during our lessons, and the time always goes by quickly. I would recommend Chris to anyone looking for a cello instructor.
Chris is a great teacher. Being a busy adult beginner, I don't always have the time I'd like to practice. He's very understanding and encouraging. When something isn't working, he approaches it from another angle. I highly recommend him!
Chris has been teaching me weekly cello lessons for two years and he's a fantastic teacher! He's great at building a strong foundation, showing you the basics, but then is willing to lead you down the rabbit holes that you're interested in exploring -- like focusing on songs I want to play, the techniques I want to learn, etc. He's always prepared and on time, and is a friendly, funny dude in general. Highly recommend!
If you're looking for a guitar teacher who is not only knowledgeable but also makes you feel confident and supported, Christopher is the perfect choice. His support and encouragement have been invaluable, and I truly appreciate all the help he's given me. In summary, Christopher is an exceptional electric guitar teacher, and I can't recommend him highly enough.
