About Cassandra

I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I speak 4 languages and am always learning and discovering new things each day. I’m a mother to a child with special needs so I know what taking time with understanding things means for different learners and love to help others understand things in ways normal methods can’t.

1. Teaching Method and Techniques
Active Learning & Metacognition: Lessons focus on interactive participation, requiring students to solve problems and explain their reasoning, rather than passively listening.
Personalized Instruction (VARK Model): Instruction is adapted to individual learning styles—visual (diagrams), auditory (discussion), reading/writing, or kinesthetic (hands-on).
High-Dosage Tutoring Model: Focus on high-frequency, consistent sessions (2–3 times a week) aligned with the school curriculum.
Scaffolding & Guided Practice: Tutors model strategies, then gradually reduce support as students build confidence and independence.
Positive Reinforcement & Growth Mindset: Building confidence by celebrating small wins and fostering resilience in the face of academic challenges.
2. A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)
Warm-up/Review (5-10 mins): Quick review of previous material or a fun, educational icebreaker to build rapport.
Objective Setting (2 mins): Clearly defining the "SMART" goal for the session (e.g., "By the end of this session, you will be able to solve for X".).
Direct Instruction/Modeling (10-15 mins): Introducing new concepts through interactive dialogue, visual aids, or digital tools.
Guided Practice (20 mins): The student solves problems with real-time feedback and scaffolding from the tutor.
Independent Practice/Application (10 mins): Student applies the concept alone to demonstrate mastery.
Wrap-up & Reflection (5 mins): Discussing what was learned and assigning targeted, brief homework.
3. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
Beyond Academic Results: I mentor students, helping them develop organizational skills, self-advocacy, and confidence.
Tech-Enabled Interaction: Using tools like digital whiteboards and interactive quizzes to keep students engaged every 5-7 minutes. LEARNING IS FUN!!
Flexible & Empathetic: Adapting to student moods and learning speeds, ensuring a safe, non-judgmental, and patient environment.
Curriculum Alignment: Close collaboration with parents and teachers to ensure tutoring reinforces school-day learning rather than introducing unrelated material.
Communication: Providing regular progress reports to parents on specific, measurable growth.
4. Who the Lessons Are For
Grade Levels: K-12 (Primary, Middle, and High School).
Core Academic Areas: Mathematics (Elementary to Calculus), Science, Language Arts, and Reading Literacy.
Specialized Needs:
Struggling Students: Intervention for falling behind in reading/math.
Enrichment/Gifted: Advanced material to keep students challenged.
Test Prep: SAT/ACT prep for high schoolers, as well as state-standardized tests.
Neurodiverse Learners: Tailored approaches for students with ADHD or learning disabilities.
