About Mehreen

Hi! I’m a patient and dedicated tutor with a background in Psychology (MSc, BPS-accredited) and English (BA Honours). Alongside my academic studies, I’ve spent several years working in schools and support roles, helping children with a range of learning needs, including dyslexia, autism, ADHD, anxiety, and school-related confidence challenges.

I currently work in SEN education, supporting children one-to-one and in small groups across mainstream schools. I also provide private tutoring in English and Maths, where I focus on helping students build confidence, strengthen their core skills, and feel more comfortable with learning at their own pace.

What matters most to me is creating a calm, supportive space where students don’t feel judged or rushed. I’ve seen how quickly children can grow in confidence when learning is broken down in the right way and when they feel understood and encouraged.

I decided to tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping students realise they can do things they once found difficult. My background in psychology also helps me understand how emotions, confidence, and learning are closely linked — especially for younger or neurodivergent learners.

My goal is simple: to help students feel more capable, more confident, and more in control of their learning.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and tailored to each individual learner’s needs. I focus on building both understanding and confidence, particularly for students who may lack confidence in Maths or English or who require additional support. I adapt my teaching methods to suit different learning styles, using visual aids, step-by-step explanations, practical examples, and interactive activities to make learning more engaging and accessible.

I place a strong emphasis on identifying gaps in understanding and strengthening core skills before moving on to more advanced content. For younger learners, I incorporate structured routines and engaging tasks to support focus and motivation. For older students, in GCSE English, I focus on exam technique, analytical skills, and clear written expression.

Typical lessons last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the student’s needs, concentration level, and learning goals. Sessions can be adjusted in length if required to ensure the most effective learning experience.

I hold an MSc in Psychology and a BA in English, and I also have experience working in educational settings supporting children with a range of additional needs, including dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and anxiety-related barriers to learning. This experience has strengthened my ability to adapt teaching strategies and create a calm, supportive learning environment.

My lessons are suitable for:

Primary school students (Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2) in Maths and English.
Secondary school students (Key Stage 3 and GCSE level) in English Language and English Literature.

My overall goal is to help students feel more confident, capable, and independent in their learning, while making lessons engaging and supportive.
