About Jennifer

One to one teaching is my favorite kind! I have been in education for a little over 18 years, and have taught every age group from elementary through community college. My certification areas include:

Computer Science

Math

English

Science

Special Education

Middle school generalist

Elementary school generalist

I have also served as a sociel emotional learning facilitator, and I am a certified restorative discipline coordinator. Relationships and compassion are really important to me!

I have been teaching on the high school lever fr the past 6 years in multiple subject areas, recently math and computer science. I wholeheartedly believe that tutoring can cure a lot of academic woes. Even if it takes time, there is always a way to help all my students!

Helping people! I like to see students feel good about what they learned and know that they have the capacity to learn.

Actually, I fell into teaching.  While I was in college, one of my professors asked if I would be willing to tutor a student who had come complicated home dynamics.  I had no experience tutoring children, but I loved it right away.  From there, I specialized in working with students who needed a different approach to education.  I've enjoyed educating ever since!

I have been in education for 18 years and am certified by the state of Texas in 7 different areas.  Over the years, I have run clinics in reading and mathematics, worked as a parent advocate, helped students reenter public education, specialized as a case manager for students with disabilites, helped at risk students earn high school credits to graduate on time, and have taught as a classroom teacher.

My first questions are really going to be about how a student feels about the topic/subject.  What does the student feel really good about in htis area, where is the student feeling a bit lost.  If a students hates a subject, I want to hear it.  If a students feels intimidated by the pacing of a class, I want to know. It helps me get an overall sense of what that student's daily life is like in that class, as well as where I can add any emotional strategies to help with anxiety, etc.

I have worked with students of all ability levels, all backgrounds, and all mindsets.  I've had students who needed remidiation in one subject area, and honors in another.  I've had students with multiple disabilites, challenging home life situations, and students who had to overcome several obstacles ot graduate high school.  All in all, I've had every type of student!

Go with your gut.  If you read through a profile and it doesn't feel right, don't ignore that.  Learning can be challenging enough if you don't feel good about who you are working with!

I love hiking.  Recently, we went to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked as much as we possibly could.  Being in the mountains is one of the greatest adventures in life!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-What part about this topic/subject causes me the most stress?

-What are the easiest parts of the topic/suject for me?

-What do I need from my teacher/tutor to help me better understand a topic/subject?

-What is my favorite/preferred way of learning new information?

-Would it be helpful if I let my teacher/tutor know about any issues with anxiety or disability that challenges my learning process?
