About Chelsea

I am a certified elementary and special ed teacher with a Master degree from University of Washington. I have been teaching for 15 years, everything from developmental preschool through high school. In addition, I'm an actor, singer, director, and visual artist. I've taught theatre arts in various capacities for 20 years. I love kids and am passionate about helping them discover and nurture the greatness within them. My fun, quirky, humorous teaching style will have even the most reluctant learners ready to jump right in! I look forward to hearing from you!

Even as an elementary schooler, I loved helping my classmates with their schoolwork.  Academics always came really easily for me, and I knew that I had the ability to make complicated ideas make sense to others.  Teaching was a natural choice!

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a masters degree in special education.

First, I want to get to know the student, their family, and their priorities with regards to their student's learning.  Then, I spend some time assessing the student and building rapport.  Throughout the whole process, I communicate with the student and family regularly (usually weekly) about successes, challenges, and ideas for growth.

Ages 4 through adults, including on-level students, special ed students, gifted students, and adult learners.  I also do audition preparation, painting, and musical theatre performance skills, along with various styles of dance.

Find someone you connect with and will enjoy spending time with.  The process of learning requires openness and trust, and it's important to feel like you can be yourself with the teacher, and make mistakes, knowing that the goal is only to help you grow and achieve your goals.

As an performer, I love live theatre!  When this awful virus isn't going on, you can find me at the theatre, either performing myself or taking in a show.  The last even I went to before the quarantine was the musical, "The Fantasticks".

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Definitely they should think about whether they are committed to learning and willing to put the time in.  Sometimes it's helpful for students to think of a teacher who really helped them, and make a list of characteristics that teacher had.  Look for potential teachers with some of those characteristics, but be openminded in case someone doesn't check EVERY box, but the fit feels right.
