About Ryan
Education is a passion of mine. I care deeply about meeting students where they are at and finding productive ways to engage them with their learning material in ways that are approachable and relatable. I graduated Cum Laude in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in "Curriculum Planning from a Multicultural Perspective" which is a major that I built at UMass Amherst under the careful guidance of the honors department. I deeply & genuinely care about the quality of learning that students receive. After graduating I completed a year of Americorps Service with City Year Denver. I worked as a Near Peer Tutor in a 3rd grade classroom and served Behavior Coordinator on my team. Due to my proximity in age to my students, I was able to build a lot of trust with them. It was in that year that I began to love and appreciate the role of being an extension of a classroom teacher, and helping students digest, understand, and apply material that was unclear or confusing to them. There is nothing quite as stunning to witness, as a lightbulb going off in a students head, and what they were stuck on finally clicks for them. I aim to inspire that lightbulb to click in many more people, as students across the globe attempt to engage exclusively in online learning in these strange and trying times.

Typically I like to gain some insight from the student or parent about where the student is at in their material & what they seem to be struggling with. Ideally, I would be kept up to date on what the student is working on throughout their week so I ca come prepared to our sessions to help them in the best way that I can. In meeting a new student, I like to get to know them and their interests. That way, I know how to motivate them when they are struggling and/or present the material to them in ways that are more fun and enagaging.
