About Carlie

Through years of intense english and math classes I've developed as a student who despised writing to scoring in the top 1% of all standardized english and math testing. I'm here to share how I learned to connect to writing and help you improve your skills overall through finding your own voice.

I have been a volunteer public tutor for the King County Library System for 2+ years now. In highschool, I passed AP English Literature and AP English Language and IB Calculus with a 4.0, scoring a 5. I have earned a 35/36 on the reading, writing and math sections of the ACT. My poetry competed at the state level in Washington PTA Reflections. I have also been applying my skills in real life scenarios and worked on writing promotional material and emails for a state legislative campaign over the summer.

About the lesson

Typically, when working with a new student, I want to assess their current abilities and establish what goals they have. Then I hope to figure out which specific skills they feel confident in and which skills they would like the most support. From there, I will develop a lesson plan to help reach the students' needs in a motivational, doable, and enjoyable way.

I've worked with students from all backgrounds ages 6-16. I work really well with students who get distracted easily, love to chat, and/or have a hard time finding work motivation.

After determining that a teacher is qualified to help you reach your goals, I think it is essential that you like your tutor and will enjoy working with them. Academic work can be draining, and developing your skills can be difficult, so it is important to feel supported and encouraged along the way.
