About Brittany

I have always enjoyed helping classmates and friends with a variety of school work from the time I was in high school all the way through college. I majored in English for several years of undergraduate school before discovering a passion for Veterinary Technology which required me to excel in Biology, specifically Anatomy & Physiology. (I still have and use my college biology textbook, among other resources.) I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree from Medaille College, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. I then worked for several years as a Vet Tech with a special interest in Nutrition and Behavior. I now stay at home with my two young sons and my rescue dog.

I love to learn about a variety of topics and am happy to go out of my way in order to help others understand topics with which they may struggle. Not all people learn the same way, and I will make it my mission to work with you on the methods you learn best. I actually enjoy being challenged by questions and encourage everyone to ask as many questions as possible!

My family has a long line of teachers from several different types of school environments.

Establishing common ground and discussing a student's interests can go a long way towards identifying the best methods to proceed. I also find it important to set goals, whether they may be simple and topic-centered or if they stretch multiple topics, it is necessary to discuss the expected outcome.

I have worked with a range of students, some motivated, some not so much. Sometimes, motivation is as simple as finding a common interest and working from there.

Any student looking for potential teachers should first ask themselves what they are hoping to gain from the tutoring process. I find that it's best to learn from a person that you respect, it's even better if the said teacher uses methods that you find helpful. Look for a teacher who is qualified, but is also willing to work with you on your level.

I recently traveled to California for the first time with my husband. The picture on my profile is from Monterey, CA, where we saw a wild sea otter floating and eating. It was an incredibly beautiful beach, but I cannot say it was any better or worse than the Redwood forest at Muir Woods that we hiked through. I think it can be enlightening to experience such diverse parts of the country and I would love to keep traveling.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student needs to think about their ultimate goal, then maybe try breaking it down (though a tutor can help with that.) Once the basic goals have been established, they should consider where exactly they are struggling. Is there something about the specific topic that is causing trouble, or doesn't make sense? Is it the whole subject matter? Does the student know how they best learn, i.e. visual aids help but pneumonic devices are useless? Is memorization difficult or easy? There are so many options when it comes to learning if they know what helps them, great! Let your teacher know. If you're just struggling in general, also discuss that and maybe your teacher can help you identify methods for you.
