About Amanda

I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Special Education. I have four years of college level experience under my belt, but I also have the ability to relate to the various levels that my students are at (elementary school, high school, or college). Whether it is an AP literature paper or a college essay that needs to be sharpened to stand out, I am here to help! Personally, I worked as a tutor in my unversity's writing center, I took several AP English courses in high school so I understand the level of difficulty when it comes to writing and editing papers, and I love to add a little fun and flare to my students' sessions. I will be teaching at an elementary school in the fall, so you can count on me to be fun, as well as effective. I love nothing more than aiding in students' success, and would love to have the opportunity to help you achieve the success you deserve!

I have worked as a peer tutor, both in high school and in college, helping my fellow classmates with their work. Whether it was editing an assignment or working to completely restructure a paper, I did it side by side with my student.

I am a education major, so I have over 750 hours of field experience accrued from my program, working with students in several content areas with ages spanning from four years old to eleven years old. I also worked for over five years as a camp counselor in the summer which required communication and organization, as well as a willingness to have fun!

About the lesson

I like to first see and hear what the student believes their strengths are. It is very important to build confidence in an subject or area that may be a little more difficult than others. I want the student to show me what they are proud of, or what they think they do well. Then, I will ask the student what they want to improve on. What do they want to get out of this session? I also prefer to see samples so I can see what I believe to be strengths and weaknesses from an outside perspective. Overall, this needs to be a positive and encouraging environment to promote success. Improvement stems from excitement to work hard and be better, not from an atmosphere of stress!
