About Joey
Hi all! I'm Joey Vaikness and I am a college graduate from the University of North Texas. As a Magna Cum Laude graduate, I have always taken pride in striving for my best possible performance in the classroom.
I have a year's worth of experience teaching at Kumon children ages 3-14, and know the importance of practicing kindness and patience with students that are at any level on their academic journey. I have worked with children with ADHD, aspergers, autism, and dyslexia and it was a joy to see their grades improve and watch their confidence grow.
With my students, I hope to establish good precidents for patience, critical thinking, and perserverence in the face of a problem. By empowering them to learn to trust their own minds, I hope that they become more confident in their own problem solving abilities outside of our sessions.
I graduated from the University of North Texas, Magna Cum Laude, with a BA in Integrative Studies combining Psychology, Philosophy and Business.
I have over a year of experience tutoring at Kumon Learning Center at Starwood in Frisco, Texas.

About the lesson

I first find a baseline of how far along the student is and what their needs are.
Next, I walk through the problem the student has chosen step by step. Often, the student can find their way.
If the student gets stumped on a part of the problem, we will zoom in on that step. I will introduce them to any new information that they may need in order to understand the problem fully, and even provide analogous examples and walk through and solve those.
Ultimately, I will allow the student the opportunity to make the crucial step of solving the initial problem to themself, that way they will be equipped to solve more problems like it.
