I like to take some time to talk with the students about what they are interested in. After we get to know each other a little bit, I then like to talk with them about their thoughts and feelings on why something is harder for them, or their challenges with the subject. I then have them try doing some of their normal work while I watch so I can see what exactly is causing the struggle. Then from there I come up with ways to help them through the challenges and to learn what they need to learn.
