About LaRida

Like most students, I dreaded going to English class in high school. English was boring, it meant reading books, correcting spelling mistakes, or writing essays. It wasn't until my senior year of high school that I fell in love with English, becuase I had a teacher who made it fun. I hope to get other students to see the fun aspects of English and how it has such a positive impact in everyday lives. English is a skill that is needed in almost everything that one does. It makes you more marketable for jobs, college, and even traveling.

I graduated University of Hawaii Manoa with my Bachelors degree in English and Psychology in May 2019. Since then, I have been working as a Registered Behavioral Therapist. My job has enabled me to be attune to the various teaching strategies. I have been aiding children on the Autisim Spectrum to learn how to live with autism. This includes math skills, teaching others how to speak English or sign, science, life skills and many more. I enjoy helping others succeed in life. I belive my strengths in teaching can make any student excell in English.

I always knew I wanted to be in a profession where I worked with kids and was able to help others. What better way to do that then become a teacher. After graduating college I could focus on teaching others through work.

I have my Bachelors degree in both English and Psychology. I graduated in May of 2019. I also work as a Registered Behavior Technician, teaching children on the autism spectrum disorder how to live with autism.

About the lesson

Getting to know a student is priority. Knowing what the student needs help with, how they like to word essays, what are their interests and what they dont like to be able to best assess how I can help them achieve the tutoring they need.

I have worked with college students as well as students on the Autism Spectrum that ages from 2 years old to 17 years old.

No one is born with exceptional English skills, like almost everything, it is learned. Becoming good at English takes practice you can get there too.

Working with children on the Autism Spectrum can have its challenges, but it is also rewarding when you can see the progress that a child is making. Earlier this year, I witnessed a child that I work with say "mama" for the first time. It was heartwarming to see what a difference teaching can make in not only the person recieving tutoring or teaching but also the families and everyone else it impacts.
