About Jacob

I am a graduate student pursuing a Masters in English at Boston College. I received my Bachelors degree from Boston College, with a double major in English and Philosophy. I work professionally for the university's English department as a writing tutor. I was also a senior editor for the student newspaper for three years. I have edited hundreds of essays, college applications, cover letters, and personal statements, including submissions for a Fulbright scholar.

I enjoy helping students better individual assignments and become more confident and capable writers. I also enjoy watching students develop a love of literature.

I edited articles informally for my college newspaper, and then applied for and received an employment position in the Boston College English department as a Writing Fellow.

I was a National Merit Finalist. I received scores of 5 on AP English Literature and AP English Language. I received my bachelors degree in English and Philosophy from a well-ranked liberal arts university (Boston College). I am now pursuing a graduate degree in English at Boston College. I am employed by the University as a dedicated Writing tutor, and I edited thousands of articles over the course of my three years as a senior editor on the student newspaper.

About the lesson

I would begin with a brief chat to get to know each other and explore what kind of tutoring or essay editing I would be doing, as well as our expectations for each other. After that, I would work with the student synchronously or asynchronously, depending on what the assignment warranted.

I have worked with high school and undergraduate college students.

Find someone who you click with. It's important to be able to give and receive feedback from someone who you like and trust.

I recently worked with a Fulbright applicant on her personal statements, and I was so proud and happy when she was accepted!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I open to receiving helpful feedback? Did I understand the assignment correctly? Do I have any questions for the teacher?
