About Grace

As a current undergraduate at GWU, with 6 years+ of experience tutoring children ages 6-12, all materials from K-8 are still relevant as I hold a passion for being a provider for young students while building a relationship to help accomplish their personal goals. Because I have experience working with a wide range of students, I am familiar with different work ethics and learning styles while being respectful of all backgrounds and educational levels. The ongoing strategy I plan on utilizing is making sure each student is comfortable working as a team to reach new goals for their own learning experience. I plan to do this by utilizing my friendliness, enthusiasm, and encouragement to remind them how hardworking and resilient each student is! I plan to listen to parents' concerns/needs along with the student's needs to execute to high-quality ends!

About the lesson

The first meeting includes a pre-knowledge check, to get a clear view of the level of the student of his/her strengths, weaknesses in writing/reading, common core math skills. 

I then plan out weekly review sheets, activities to enhance the student's work. While requesting current grades, past school work (homework + exams) for detailed review). With the student, I go over his/her current work if assistance is needed while working on improving on specific areas that may need improving that should be recommended by my parents or student directly. 



I have worked with students from ages 6-12. 
- Age 6-7: Main focus on English speaking skills, basic vocab memorization, writing, and reading compensation practices.

- Age 8-10: Main focus on analytical reading and early essay writing skills, common core math practices 

- Age 11-12: Main focus on building current knowledge to form proper and professional writing skills for age group (enhanced vocab usage, writing proficiency) 



Never be afraid to talk. This is a place where a teacher is more of a supporter rather educator. Come in with questions if needed.

Pick a tutor with who you would feel the most comfortable. Someone who is focusing on the area of skills you are looking to improve



A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Gather your thoughts and jot them down beforehand. Many students forget what to ask when meeting with a teacher one-on-one slowing the process of planning. 

- What are my educational strength and weaknesses? (math, reading, grammar, etc...)
- What am I interested in right now? (book genres, activities, hobbies)
- If I could be better at one thing involved with the school, what would it be?
- What is my type of learning? (visual, hands-on, auditory, reading and writing)
