About Dillon

The only thing I love more than writing is reading/editing friends’ poetry/short fiction & helping them to fully realize their best, most refined work. Because of this, & combined with my experience as an Employment Specialist, I bring both expertise & creativity to my resume writing services. I have the ability to turn your hard earned work experience into a professional-looking resume/CV that will stand out above all other job candidates applying for the same position. Please do not hesitate to contact me for examples of past clients’ resumes!

Bio:

Dillon J. Welch received his MFA in Poetry from NYU. His work has appeared in AMRI, Coldfront, CutBank, Jellyfish, Pinwheel, Sixth Finch & other journals.

ABOUT ME:

I am truly an editor at heart. I’ve worked on the staff of several different creative writing magazines as both a poetry editor & a poetry reviews editor, but I will read anyone’s writing, young or old, experienced or brand new, without hesitation.

I began working for magazines/journals in undergrad (UNH) for my school’s creative writing magazine. From there, I co-created & served as the head poetry editor for an upstart online journal, SWARM Quarterly, which ran for 5 years & published over 80 different writers in 20 issues. During my time in grad school (NYU), I wrote poetry reviews for American Microreviews, Coldfront, & Heavy Feather Review.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

In 2016, I spent one year working as an Employment Specialist for individuals with disabilities. During that time, I learned skills & techniques that would later allow me to take a client’s job experience (or, in some occasions, a lack-thereof) & create a unique resume that would truly shine above all other job applicants. Since, I’ve used my abilities to help friends & family members showcase their own professional experience. I’ve also worked, when commissioned, as a freelance resume writer/editor. Please do not hesitate to contact me for examples of past clients’ resumes!

MORE ABOUT ME:

In 2019, Big Lucks Books accepted & published my first chapbook, Impatient Inpatient, for a limited print run of 100 copies. Though writing the book took over a year & was a long, strenuous process, collaborating with my editor on the first through final drafts were some of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in my entire writing career.

Impatient Inpatient (Big Lucks 2019): (concealed information)

"I love these poems by Dillon Welch. They move so unexpectedly. These ‘sonnets’ have the electricity of getting a text from an old friend who loves Ted Berrigan as much as you do. Quickly dealing with and dispatching the tropes of the Recovery Poem, they are exciting, demotic, and lyrical little transmissions from an exciting new talent."

-Matthew Rohrer, Surrounded by Friends and The Others

I taught as an adjunct professor for a creative writing workshop while attending NYU’s graduate MFA program in Poetry. I also worked as an Employment Specialist in 2016, where I learned & further developed the skills to create fine-tuned resumes that stand out among a crowd.

About the lesson

The process is fairly simple: the client & I will sit down (in-person or virtually) & go over their job experience, applicable skills & abilities, & accomplishments/awards. Then, I will use this information to create a succinct, fully-formed resume that will catch a hiring manager’s eye when fishing through the slush pile that oftentimes accompanies a job listing.
