About Shirin
Hello!
I have a love for languages and enjoy helping children and teenagers find their voice through writing and speaking. I help students build confidence in their ability level and push aside their prior negative feelings towards what they are working on. I take a strengths based approach and like to help my students foster their sense of worth and feel proud of themselves when they are done with their assignments. Available for English & ESL
I love brainstorming with students, being creative, and helping students use their strengths to improve in areas they find difficult.
I began tutoring when I was a teenager and carried this over into my love for education. I work in the schools with fellow teachers and help build in differentiated strategies for students to utilize when learning new material.
I have a Bachelors in Cognitive Sciences and a minor in Education, and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. I work as a school psychologist during the school year and have years of experience working with children and teenagers with learning difficulties and behavior challenges. I help differentiate learning strategies for students based upon their need. I try to help students learn that they learn in their own way, and that they can make this work for them.

I first get to know the student by asking about their interests and attitude towards their school work. I try to tie in interests into their assignment and remind them of their interests if they start to struggle. I try to relate material to how it may be applicable to their lives in order to build interest and personal responsibility for what it is they need to complete. I help students brainstorm, build organizational tools, utilize these tools, write rough drafts, and foster their creativity.
Ages three to eighteen. I have worked with general education students, students who receive specialized academic instruction, students with behavioral difficulties, students with learning disabilities and Autism, or Down Syndrome.
Additionally, I have worked with adults to help create resumes and generate cover letters. I worked at the UC Irvine Career Center as a consultant and advised students on how to navigate the job market.
Lastly, I have experience editing research articles and essays and have helped several graduate students.
Ask good questions of your teacher! Ask them what they do when you are frustrated or feel like giving up. Ask them how they build in breaks. Ask them how much guidance they are willing to give. Do not be afraid to ask questions, and get to know your teacher as well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much guidance they think they need, what are their areas of strength and areas of difficulty, and ask about their teachers experience.

I felt this program matched me with right tutor for my needs.
I had a wonderful experience working with Shirin! She was so reliable, patient, and cheerful. She helped me when I was applying to graduate programs by editing my personal statement and helping me through the application process. I do not know what I would have done without her. She has helped me with my graduate assignments such as brainstorming ideas, editing, and APA formatting. I highly suggest Shirin!
