About Jared
I have been working as an English Language Arts and special education teacher for seven years. I have a master’s degree and I am certified to teach ELA and special education for grades 7-12. My experiences have enabled me to work with a diverse group of students ranging from honors/AP to alternately assessed students. A large percentage of the students I currently educate have IEPs.
I began substitute teaching after graduating from Mount Saint Mary College with a degree in English, and I soon discovered that teaching is my true passion. I soon enrolled in a graduate program at Mercy College to attain my teaching certification while continuing to work with students as a substitute teacher and tutor for an after-school program with The Boys and Girls Club.

I begin by determining a student’s present levels of performance in reading and writing as well as their personal and academic goals. I communicate with the parent/guardian to allow them to express their expectations. From there, I develop and implement a learning plan to meet the specific needs of the student.
I have worked with a wide range of students from grades 6-12. The majority of my current students have IEPs, but I also have a great deal of experience working with those who are not classified. I have developed/implemented effective strategies for addressing the individual needs of all types of students.
Students should seek to find a teacher who understands that each student requires an individualized approach and one who is willing to develop a specific plan to facilitate progress in areas of need.
I recently helped two of my students increase their score on the ELA regents exam from below passing to passing with regents credit.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask themselves what areas they feel they need to improve, why it is important to them to progress academically, and what their goals are for the future.
