About Nelchael

I am passionate about helping students express themselves through the art of writing and exploring the depth of the human experience through reading. In college, I studied marketing management, political science and business law which required hours of extensive critical reading and analysis in the form of essays, business cases, memos and proposals.

My method of tutoring is to tap into the student's natural strengths and interests and find ways to make that connect to their assignments and the methodology is unique for each child. For example, my younger brother is an avid marvel movie fantatic and used to spend hours watching the related shows and movies. The way our family encourages him to read is through exposure to the orginal comic books. Since then, his interest for reading has improved tremendously and his television time has reduced significantly.

Coming from a business background, I also like to have key point indicators or measurements of success and/or progress. That would come in the form of asking students to track how many hours they dedicate to reading per week, record how long it takes to complete an assignment or grade improvement. Each indicator would be unique to each student and it's not unusual to use a combination of all three if necessary.

I am a full-time professional so my preferred method of tutoring is online--however, I can provide one-on-one tutoring sessions for local customers in the Northern NJ area.

About the lesson

Depending on the subject (we'll use reading and English as an example), I would advise students to ask potential tutors for a sample of their own work and to ask questions specific to their own concerns. For example, if you are apprehensive about public speaking, ask your candidate about methods they would use to help you with this fear and if they have experience with this as well.
